The Arizona Daily Star's Sportsmen’s Fund has embarked on an initiative aimed at raising funds to enable children from low-income families and active military households in Southern Arizona to attend summer camps. These scholarships, funded by generous contributions from Star readers, provide weeklong experiences at various YMCA, Scouting America, Girl Scout camps, and specialized overnight camping facilities like Camp Tatiyee for children with special needs. The ultimate goal is to raise $225,000 to send at least 500 children to these enriching camps. So far, the program has received 746 donations totaling over $174,000, which represents more than 77% of their target.
This charitable endeavor not only brings joy to local children but also fosters a sense of community spirit. Through dedicated efforts, the Sportsmen’s Fund continues to make a significant impact on young lives by providing them with opportunities they might otherwise miss out on. Contributions can be made via credit card through azsendakidtocamp.org or by sending checks payable to Sportsmen’s Fund to Send a Kid to Camp at P.O. Box 16141, Tucson, AZ 85732-6141.
Recently, several generous donors have stepped forward to support this noble cause. Among them are the Burghard family, who donated $200; Nancy Chidester with $104; Janine Contestable contributing $100; Robin Coon making a substantial donation of $1,000; Robert Fabio giving $109.42; the Roth Gordon Family Fund donating $2,000; Kathryn Gullen, Patricia K.
