Youth Embrace the Spirit of Running in Marquette County Event
2025-05-09

Children in Marquette County are embracing a unique opportunity to engage in competitive running. The annual Dead Carp event provides adults with options for longer races, including a 20K run or a 5K run/walk, while younger participants enjoy their own one-mile race. Focused on kids under 12, the Little Carp features a half-mile out-and-back challenge along scenic routes near South Beach and the Carp River. Young runners were not only greeted by enthusiastic spectators but also rewarded with medals and refreshing snacks upon completing their race.

This community-driven event promotes personal achievement through individual sports. According to Paige Du Bois, co-owner of Queen City Running Company, running helps children develop perseverance and self-motivation. Unlike many team-based activities, this sport allows individuals to set and achieve personal goals while fostering a lifelong passion. Moreover, it encourages family involvement as parents can join their children in the activity, creating shared experiences and mutual encouragement. Such events emphasize the value of physical fitness and healthy living from an early age.

Racing isn’t just about competition; it’s about building character and promoting unity within the community. By engaging youth in athletic endeavors like these, organizers aim to inspire future generations to lead active lifestyles. Encouraging children to participate in such wholesome activities ensures they grow up valuing health, discipline, and teamwork—qualities essential for success in all aspects of life. With adult races scheduled early Saturday morning, the entire family can partake in this invigorating experience together.
