Inspiring Young Musicians: Tasheina Chianti-White's Journey and Vision
2025-06-07

An innovator in the field of music education, Tasheina Chianti-White has carved out a unique niche through her creation of MUSEC, a vibrant music camp aimed at nurturing young talent. Her lifelong connection to music began in early childhood, nurtured by family influences that shaped her into the passionate educator she is today.

From an early age, White was immersed in the world of melody, thanks to her mother, Cynthia Canty, a talented church pianist and soloist. Encouraged by both her mother and grandmother, she explored music with playful curiosity, using simple tools like a tape recorder and a hairbrush microphone. A defining moment came when she bravely performed "One Day at a Time" at church, receiving enthusiastic applause and monetary blessings from the congregation. This experience instilled in her a deep understanding of the value placed on musical gifts within her community. By the age of five, White had already earned her place in an adult choir, demonstrating remarkable skill and dedication. Local singers further fueled her passion, inspiring her to refine her vocal techniques and embrace the transformative power of music.

Building on her early experiences, White’s journey took her to Carnegie Hall in 1995, where she performed with the Statesboro High School Chorus. This pivotal event solidified her commitment to music as her life’s calling. After briefly pursuing a different path in college, she returned to her passion, earning a degree in musical therapy under the guidance of Dr. Gregory Broughton. Today, through MUSEC, she shares her expertise with the next generation, offering a program designed for youth aged ten to fourteen. The camp provides a nurturing environment where participants can express themselves creatively, build meaningful relationships, and develop essential skills. Initially inspired by her sons’ need for constructive summer activities, MUSEC has grown to include multiple locations, fostering a love for music while addressing the social and emotional needs of today’s youth.

MUSIC education plays a crucial role in shaping young minds, providing them with tools to thrive both personally and socially. Through initiatives like MUSEC, Tasheina Chianti-White demonstrates the transformative power of music, encouraging children to pursue their passions with confidence. By focusing on accessibility and growth, she ensures that every participant finds joy and fulfillment in their musical journey. Supporting such programs not only enriches individual lives but also strengthens communities, creating a brighter future for all.
