Hyundai's Ioniq 5 N made a significant impact in the performance electric vehicle market, earning accolades for its dynamic capabilities. Now, the brand introduces its highly anticipated successor, the Ioniq 6 N, promising an even more refined and exhilarating driving experience. This new iteration inherits the robust dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, delivering an impressive 641 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, sustained by an 84kWh battery system.
Thanks to strategic weight reduction and specialized Pirelli P Zero tires, the Ioniq 6 N accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds, two-tenths faster than its SUV counterpart. Despite a slightly reduced top speed of 153 mph compared to the Ioniq 5 N's 162 mph, its superior drag coefficient of 0.274Cd (compared to 0.313Cd for the 5 N) contributes to a more efficient energy consumption, extending its range to an estimated 291 miles, an improvement of 13 miles over the previous model.
The Ioniq 6 N is not merely a powertrain transplant from its predecessor; it features a comprehensively re-engineered suspension system. This includes finely tuned adaptive dampers and revised geometry optimized for track performance. A groundbreaking 11-way adjustable torque distribution system, now available on both axles, offers unprecedented control, alongside the continued presence of a rear limited-slip differential. The braking system retains powerful 400mm front and 360mm rear discs, adapted to fit the new 20-inch wheels.
Key software features from the Ioniq 5 N have been further refined for the 6 N. The N Drift Optimiser, a highlight feature, now provides three distinct adjustable parameters for drift initiation, angle, and wheelspin, offering drivers meticulous control over their maneuvers. The e-Shift system, which simulates an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, has been enhanced to function seamlessly in drift mode, featuring shorter virtual ratios for a more engaging experience. Additionally, a new 'motorsport' sound profile replicates the authentic engine note of a Hyundai TCR race car, elevating the auditory experience.
Visually, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N distinguishes itself with a striking swan-neck rear wing that not only enhances its aggressive aesthetic but also generates significant downforce. Functional modifications to the front bumper channel air more efficiently to extended side skirts, while rear bumper ducts reduce air pressure within the wheel arches. The car is available in a unique pearlescent Performance Blue, a departure from the gloss finish seen on previous N models. Inside, the 6 N features sporty front seats with illuminated N logos, the familiar steering wheel from the 5 N, and ambient lighting that doubles as a shift indicator, solidifying its appeal to performance enthusiasts.
