Opportunity Awaits: National Park Service Invites Proposals for Iconic Cape Cod Snack Bar
2025-06-08

An exciting opportunity has emerged for entrepreneurs interested in managing a cherished snack bar nestled within the scenic Cape Cod National Seashore. The National Park Service has officially opened the bidding process for this well-loved facility, which is strategically located at Herring Beach, just beyond the charming town of Provincetown. This establishment features a fully equipped kitchen, dedicated storage space, and an expansive outdoor patio complete with picnic tables and restroom facilities. As one of the most frequented beach destinations on Cape Cod, this location attracts countless visitors each year.

The seasonal nature of the national seashore's tourism dictates that the snack bar operates from Memorial Day weekend through the second Monday in October. In the recent 2023 season, the snack bar reported earnings of over $210,000, with the majority derived from food and beverage sales. Alcohol sales, while optional, contributed significantly to the remaining revenue. Operators have the flexibility to extend their offerings by selling convenience items or providing food and beverage services at other park locations, enhancing the overall visitor experience.

With an estimated initial investment of approximately $101,000—half allocated for fixtures, furniture, and equipment—the business presents a relatively accessible entry point for prospective concessionaires. Additional funds will be necessary for inventory, staff recruitment and training, as well as marketing efforts. A minimum remittance of 5% of gross revenues is required to support the seashore's conservation efforts. Bidders have the option to propose higher franchise fees to strengthen their candidacy for the ten-year contract. Those keen on participating must submit their intent by August 20, with full proposals due by September 17. A site visit is scheduled for June 26, offering potential operators an invaluable chance to assess the property firsthand.

This initiative underscores the National Park Service's commitment to fostering vibrant partnerships that enhance public enjoyment while preserving natural treasures. By inviting innovative ideas and fresh perspectives, the service ensures that iconic locations like Herring Beach continue to thrive, benefiting both visitors and local communities alike.
